16th Annual M S Golf Day

Results of the 16th Annual M S Golf Day.
On Monday, 30th June 2025, we held the 16th MS Golf Day at Handsworth Golf Club, which raised £8,623 on the day. The event came about due to the effects of MS on Annette Austin. “In 2008, we raised over £10,000 to provide my sister (Annette) with a wheelchair as she was told she would not walk again due to the effects of MS.
This created the drive to continue raising money for MS, and subsequently, we started the MS Golf Day in 2009. Over the last 16 years, we have held the event with your help, and we have now raised £105,737 for MS.
Unfortunately, Annette passed away due to the effects of MS in August 2010. To celebrate her life, we now play for the Annette Austin Memorial Trophy.” Ivan Hutchings (Organiser).
This year, we managed to get 24 teams to participate in the event, which involved an alliance of two players per hole. In addition to the main competition, there was a yellow ball competition, the longest drive for all, the longest drive for ladies, as well as nearest the pin on all the par 3s, a silent auction, and a raffle.
Thanks to the help we received from friends and local golf clubs, the total value of the prize pool was again over £6,500, making it worthwhile to play well. Following golf, we then headed into the clubhouse for an indoor barbecue and prize giving.
On an extremely hot day, the course running fast and the greens in excellent condition, the scoring this year was incredible. Last year, the event was won with 92 points; this year, that score would not have earned you a prize.
  • Branston Bogies 102 points
  • Curmudgeons 100 points
  • Hip Flasks Ahoy 99 points
  • The Extractors 96 points
  • The Fish and Friends 94 points (back 9 – 50 pts}

Ivan made a short speech thanking everyone for attending and all the clubs who donated 4 balls and Companies who donated the other prizes for their support (list below). Without these donations, the event would not have been so successful. Please thank your clubs for their help.
Ivan also thanked Jodie and the bar staff for keeping us well watered, Andy and his team for providing the food, Lee Bashford for the difficult job of marking the cards, and finally, Gareth and his greens staff for the great presentation of the course.

Next year’s event is already booked for Monday, 29th June 2026, so please mark it in your diary and help us raise money for this worthy cause. In addition, we would like to thank all those who donated prizes or provided sponsorship.
