We were delighted to welcome 112 competitors to Handsworth for our Senior Spring Pairs Open on Thursday, 16th April, and what a day it turned out to be.
After a particularly wet winter, it was fantastic to see the course really beginning to return to its best. The fairways are firming up, the greens are running truer, and with the weather being kind to us throughout the day, players were able to enjoy the course in excellent conditions for the time of year.
A Day of Great Golf
The favourable conditions certainly showed in the scoring, with some excellent performances across the field. Although the wind did do its best to make life difficult. Competitive but friendly as always, the event captured everything that makes these Opens so enjoyable — great golf, great company, and a relaxed but competitive atmosphere.
Results
A very tight contest at the top saw two pairs finish level on an impressive 45 points, with the result decided on countback:
1st Place – John Dick & Paul Hale (Halesowen)
45 points (Back 9: 23 points)
2nd Place – Tim Barnett & John Dineley (Branston)
45 points (Back 9: 22 points)
3rd Place – Steve Turton and Alan Turton (Ullesthorpe)
44 points (back 9 of 23 points)
Congratulations to all prizewinners on outstanding rounds, and to all those who took part in what was a closely contested competition.
Clubhouse Atmosphere
It was particularly pleasing to see the clubhouse so busy after the round, with the vast majority of players staying on for the presentation.
Whether it was the social atmosphere, the chance to reflect on the day’s golf — or perhaps the draw of the excellent chilli served after play — it made for a fantastic end to the event and really highlighted the welcoming spirit of the club.
A big thank you to everyone who played, supported, and helped make the day such a success. Events like this are a great reminder of the strong community around the game and the enjoyment these competitions bring.
We’re already looking forward to doing it all again and are delighted to be hosting our next event: Spring Pairs Open – 25th April 2026. We look forward to welcoming you all back to Handsworth for another superb day of golf.
