Handsworth Golf Club was founded in 1895, and that proud heritage connects us with a wider network of golf clubs established in the same year.
The 1895 Club gives Handsworth members the opportunity to play other participating courses, either as a courtesy or at a significantly reduced green fee. It reflects the tradition, connection and shared history of clubs founded in 1895.
For members, it offers the chance to enjoy golf at other established clubs in the UK and overseas, while also extending a warm welcome to members of participating clubs who wish to visit Handsworth.

A reciprocal network of golf clubs that opened or were founded in 1895.
Courtesy or Reduced Fees
Participating clubs offer reciprocal playing opportunities to members of other 1895 Club clubs, subject to availability and each club’s own arrangements.
UK and Overseas
The network includes more than 50 clubs across England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.
Member Trips
Several groups from Handsworth regularly visit other 1895 Club courses and enjoy excellent golf, hospitality and historic club settings.

Visitors can look forward to a mature 18-hole parkland course in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, with excellent greens, strong course condition, varied holes and a friendly club atmosphere.

The Agreement
How reciprocal visits normally work.
The 1895 Club agreement is designed to make visiting other participating clubs clear, courteous and well organised.
- Contact the secretary of the club you wish to visit to arrange a suitable date and check whether any green fee is payable.
- Members are normally allowed one courtesy visit to any one participating club in a calendar year.
- No more than four members from a participating club will usually be given courtesy on any one day.
- After confirmation, obtain a handicap certificate and letter of introduction from your home club office.
- Follow all dress rules, etiquette requirements and host club rules, and pay any requested green fee before play.
- Before travelling, contact the host club to confirm that the arrangements remain available.
