We would like to thank everyone who played in the Amrik Kalsi Memorial Golf Day on Monday, 4th May 2026.
Thanks to the generous donations and entry fees received on the day, a total of £670 was raised for The Mata Nanaki Foundation in Punjab.
The charity provides medical care for the poor at affordable costs and free of charge to those who cannot afford to pay. It also helps arrange marriages for those in great need, providing a starter pack that includes a bicycle, a fan, a bed, a sewing machine, and clothing items.
Funds raised from previous events have also been used to purchase much-needed respiratory equipment for a hospital in Punjab.
The Competition
The competition was an individual Stableford, played off 100% course handicap, with everyone playing from the tee they felt most comfortable using.
It was a dry day, although a little cold, and the scoring was generally very good.
The presentation was slightly chaotic, as it appeared not all the cards had been received. Fortunately, the winners kindly donated their prizes back to the charity, so no harm was done.
The top three scores were:
- 1st – Hilary Smyth – 40 points
- 2nd – Lucy Sidwell – 39 points (Back nine: 20 points)
- 3rd – Winston McLean – 39 points
Hilary will be presented with the trophy at the B Team Dinner on Thursday, 15th October.
It is also worth noting that anyone who says low handicappers struggle in this type of competition may need to think again, as the two best players finished in the top five places. Hilary shot a fantastic round of three over gross to win. Well played Hiary.
Amrik’s family also kindly donated a bottle of whiskey for the best guest score. This was won by Jim Cope with 36 points.
Team Competition
In addition to the individual competition, members and invited guests also took part in a team competition.
The format was two scores from four to count on all holes, with three scores counting on the 18th. In addition, any team scoring six or more points on a hole received an Amrik Kalsi bonus point.
This competition was extremely close, with the two leading teams finishing on 103 points each.
The final results were:
- 1st – Ben Azam, Yusif Suleman, Adam Umarji and Iqbal Suleman Back nine: 53 points
- 2nd – Emma Gibbons, Pank Patel, Vassel Brown and Stewart Quaife Back nine: 46 points
Before the event, competitors were treated to traditional samosas, kindly provided by Ajit, Jatinder and Sharon Kalsi.

Next year’s Amrik Kalsi Memorial Golf Day will again be held on the May Bank Holiday, which falls on Monday, 3rd May.
