On Thursday, October 24, 2024, we hosted the Handsworth B Team Bash! At this event, our B Team Captain, Winston McLean, invited all the teams we played against during the season to compete for the B Team Trophy.
Each team brought four players for a fun “combined pairs better ball” match. Players competed at 85% of their course handicap.
At the same time, the Handsworth B team players are split into pairs for a pairs better ball competition, again off 85 % handicap.
Despite the recent rain, the weather and course were in excellent condition, setting the perfect stage for the competition. After a closely fought match, everyone enjoyed a delightful curry and presentation to wrap up a fantastic day.
Moseley won the B Team Trophy with an impressive 83 points, beating out three teams that scored 79 points. The team from Moseley was Peter Hunt, John Bailey, Martin Knowles, and Chas Power.

- South Staffs 79 points (Back 9 – 39pts)
- Robin Hood 79 points (Back 9 = 39pts)
Haris Kular and Jaz Marwaha won the Handsworth B Team members competition with 44 points. Steve Johnson and Martyn Hutchinson from Olton came in second with 43 points, piping the Suleman brothers, Ysif and Iqubal, on a back-9 countback.
Thanks to Gareth and his team for presenting the course so beautifully. We also thank the bar staff for keeping everyone well-watered and Andy in the kitchen for an excellent curry. Special appreciation also goes to Lee Bashford, our club professional, for his dedication on the day and his support of the B Team throughout the year.
Winston gave a short speech on the joys of B-team golf and the camaraderie it brings. He also thanked all members who have played for the team this year, especially those who have filled in at short notice.
He had two special awards for Dave Thursfield and Terry Bansell, who have supported the team most this year.
We’ve asked Dave to grow a beard and ponytail to balance the photo up next year.
