The Millennium Bowl 2025

Seventy-two golfers, one bacon roll, and one strong coffee each — that’s how the day began. The clubhouse buzzed with pre-match chatter, polite banter, and just a hint of competitive plotting.
Out on the course, even the weather played ball… well, mostly. A brief drizzle at the shotgun start was just enough to wake us up, then it cleared to perfect golfing conditions. Ideal for friendly rivalry… or for inventing excuses later.

A Little Background

The Millennium Bowl is no ordinary competition. Born in the year 2000 thanks to the then Captains, it brings together four great clubs — Handsworth, Bridgnorth, Enville, and Shifnal — for a day of competition, camaraderie, and the occasional wayward shot.
This year, Handsworth Golf Club had the honour (and the workload) of hosting on Sunday 3rd August. And what a pleasure it was!

Millennium Bowl 2025 Competition

Each club fields a formidable team of 4 Juniors, 4 Ladies, 4 Gents, 4 Seniors, plus the Lady Captain and the Club Captain — 18 players ready to give their all.
The format? An individual Stableford, played off 95% of your course handicap. Sounds straightforward — until you realise your “safe” shot has somehow found the only bunker on the fairway.
Scores from all players are combined to determine the team winner, but there’s also glory (and prizes!) for the top individual Stableford score in each category.

Dinner, Drinks & Drumrolls

After 18 holes of triumphs, disasters, and heroic recoveries, it was back to the clubhouse for a well-earned two-course meal. Plates were cleared, drinks refreshed, and the air filled with whispers of “I definitely could have won if…”.

Then came the big reveal: Shifnal Golf Club emerged victorious, lifting the Millennium Bowl for 2025! Their Captain, Alan Stanley, accepted the trophy with a smile that suggested he might even sleep with it beside the bed for the next year.

The Spirit of the Day

As always, the event was played in the finest spirit of friendship, with plenty of laughs, some excellent golf, and even better company. Feedback from all four clubs was glowing — and not just because of the post-round refreshments.
The final placings were as follows:
FirstShifnal Golf Club
Third – Handsworth Golf Club
ForthEnville Golf Club
Next year, we regroup, rearm, and go again. And with a little luck (and maybe fewer three-putts), Handsworth will be bringing that trophy home!
